SAPS CONTACT POINTS

PROJECT SUMMARY

The South African Rail Commuter Corporation (SARCC), through its subsidiary the Intersite Property Management Services (IPMS), embarked on a national program to construct Contact Points for the South African Police Services (SAPS) at the various train stations in the different metropolitan areas. The aim of the program roll out was to improve the safety and security of commuters and passengers in the rail environment. The Contact Points are essentially satellite police stations, including administrative and holding cell facilities, located in the station precinct.

SCOPE

The pilot initiative was implemented in the Western Cape. Gauteng (which is divided into the Wits and Tshwane regions) formed the second phase of the initiative. Lesedi was appointed to Project Manage the implementation of this project in the Tshwane area. The project was funded by the SARCC; managed by Intersite Northern Gauteng and the tenant was to be the South African Police services (SAPS).

The following SAPS contact Points were identified within the Tshwane Metropolitan area:

Pretoria Station Contact Point

Denneboom Station Contact Point

Mabopane Station Contact Point

High Command office (Pretoria Station)

The detailed design, construction and individual sub-project cost estimate development was executed simultaneously of which Lesedi together with the professional team, endeavored to manage the risk pertaining to this method of construction development. The project was handed over to the client after successful completion.
